Stark components of 4 F 3 = 2 , 4 I 9 = 2 and 4 I 11 = 2 manifold energy levels and e ects of temperature on the laser transition of Nd 3 in YVO 4

The Stark components of the F3=2, I9=2 and I11=2 manifolds have been characterized using the ̄uorescence spectra for the F3=2 ® I9=2 and F3=2 ® I11=2 transitions of Nd3in YVO4 laser host. The thermal eects on the width and position of the popular laser line at 1061.7 nm (R1 ® Y1) of the inter-Stark transition within the F3=2 ® I11=2 intermanifold transition of Nd3:YVO4 have also been investigated. As the temperature is increased the line width of this transition is found to increase and the spectral line shifts toward the longer wavelength. The experimental results of the temperature-dependent width and shift of the 1061.7 nm line are explained using the phonon±ion interaction theory which assumes the Debye model for phonons in crystalline solids.
